Who are Milford Planning Consultants

Milford Planning Consultants are a professional, dynamic and accountable team of town planners dedicated to providing the best professional town planning and development advice to Northern Australia.

We comprise a team of professional and educated staff and pride ourselves in the streamlined delivery of our projects and ease to do business with. 

We strive to be front-footed and proactive in how we do business and deliver our projects. 

Milford Planning recognises the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of the planning and approvals framework and we appreciate the need for innovative and pragmatic solutions.  We embrace technology to deliver our services in the most efficient and effective manner.

Our educated team of town planners is actively engaged in the Townsville business community, and our knowledge of the local context and community gives us the edge where it is necessary to deliver complex and contentious projects.  As you would expect, we have an established reputation and strong working relationship with State Agencies and Local Governments.

Being a small but specialised practice we provide absolute accountability and are structured to deliver flexibility that allows us to respond to our changing and varying client needs.

The Team

George Milford – Director

George Milford – Director

George is a Town Planner with a broad background in both design and urban and regional planning. Educated at the University of Queensland, George completed a Bachelor of Design Studies 2003 and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning 2005.

George is the sole director and manager of Milford Planning Consultants, which has evolved from the successful firm Wolter Rowlands Town Planning Group, established by George in 2007.

Prior to this he was a Town Planner for the Cardwell Shire Council at Tully, Mission Beach and Cardwell from 2005.

George is the past-chair of the Planning Institute of Australia, and has membership with of the Townsville Chamber of Commerce, Townsville Enterprise, Masterbuilders, and Urban Development Institute of Australia. He has been a member of Townsville City Council’s Industry Reference Group for the preparation of its new Planning Scheme since 2012, and has been on the board of the JCU Townsville Fire since 2014.

George was a participant in the Townsville Enterprise’s Emerging Leaders Program and one of six to complete the program with Honours, and was awarded the Townsville Chamber of Commerce Corporate Employee of the Year for 2012.

Nicole Quinton – Business Operations Manager

Nicole Quinton – Business Operations Manager

Nicole is responsible for the financial management, quality assurance and general smooth operation of all things administration for our firm.

Nicole grew up in the small town of Tully, where she initially gained development industry experience as a Building Services Assistant for Cardwell Shire Council (now Cassowary Coast Regional Council) in their Building and Planning Department. In this role she developed extensive knowledge of Building Codes, Regulations, Laws and general development practices.

In 2008, she moved to Townsville and commenced employment with our firm as an Office Administrator. Since then, Nicole’s role has evolved significantly to include financial management, assisting with business development, human resources and complex administration tasks relating to our planning and development services.

Outside of work, Nicole enjoys spending time with her family, camping trips and shopping.

Sarah Jones - Senior Town Planner

Sarah Jones - Senior Town Planner

Sarah Jones has been a practicing town planner internationally since 1998 and moved to Townsville in 2007.

Sarah has joined the Milford Planning team in November 2016 having had an opportunity more recently to diversify her career and gain experience in the areas of project management and development marketing and sales with a local development group.

Sarah has widespread experience in both the Local Government and private consultancy sectors, and holds university qualifications in urban and regional planning. Sarah is an experienced consultant planner who has successfully managed a diverse portfolio of clients, along with residential, commercial, industrial and master planned developments from stakeholder engagement, through to construction and delivery to the market.

Sarah has practiced in all areas of town planning and during her career has developed a specific interest in client and approvals management and delivering sustainable development solutions and outcomes for clients and the broader community.

Sarah is currently a member of the Planning Institute of Australia.

Christopher Hay – Town Planner

Christopher Hay – Town Planner

Chris joined the Milford team in 2014, after previously working for the Port of Townsville as GIS Officer in the Planning and Property Department.

Townsville born and bred, Chris completed his Bachelor of Planning at James Cook University and has developed a thorough knowledge of the North Queensland Region and its surrounds.

Over the course of his career, Chris has developed a diverse planning and GIS skill set and possesses the ability to provide accurate and efficient strategic and development assessment planning advice based on clients needs; Develop GIS-based solutions including spatial analysis and mapping; and manage all aspects of development application process for residential, commercial and industrial developments.

When not at work Chris can be found out and about trying to capture the perfect shot for his slowly growing photography portfolio.

Matteo Sandona - Town Planner

Matteo Sandona - Town Planner

Matteo joined the Milford Planning team in 2016 during the final year of his Bachelor of Planning (Honours) degree at James Cook University.

Matteo grew up on a sugarcane farm in the Burdekin, where he worked as a farmhand on a part-time basis while completing his education. Matteo has obtained an extensive knowledge of the local area, in both rural and urban environments.

Throughout his education and developing experience in the industry, Matteo has gained valuable skills in the following areas:

  • Urban Geography and Design, including Tropical Geography while studying in Singapore;
  • Planning Legislation;
  •  Sustainable Development;
  • Development Assessment through the preparation of development application reports for residential, commercial, and industrial developments; and
  • GIS and Mapping.

Outside of the workplace, Matteo enjoys travelling to explore and learn as much as possible about new destinations.
