MPC in Team to Deliver Waterfront Promenade

Milford Planning Consultants are excited to be a key member of the team recently appointed by Townsville City Council to deliver the design and approvals for the first stage of the Ross Creek Waterfront Promenade in Townsville’s CBD.

The Townsville City Council has awarded the design tender for Stage 1A of the Townsville City Waterfront Priority Development Area to a local team including SMEC, Tippett Schrock Architects, Rider Levett Bucknall, Place Design Group and Milford Planning Consultants.  Stage 1A comprises of the water frontage from Denham Street to Reef HQ, with construction expected to start in 2017.

This will be the first project progressed through the Townsville City Waterfront Priority Development Area Development Scheme, and involves concept planning and approvals for this stretch of Ross Creek that was originally developed in the 1800s for warehouses and wharves in support of Townsville’s burgeoning trade.

This exciting new development area will create a new chapter in urban living within the Townsville city centre, and act as the first stage of what promises to be a world-class destination.

More generally, the Townsville City Waterfront Priority Development Area will act as a catalyst to realise commercial opportunities and drive economic development for Townsville and North Queensland.  By 2030 it is envisaged that the CBD, supported by this dynamic new waterfront area, will be home to some 30,000 people.  The success of this strategy will rely heavily upon creating an attractive, vibrant, flexible and sustainable public realm that adds to our City’s identity and capitalises on our lifestyle opportunities.

There is no doubting this is an exciting opportunity for the growth and prosperity of Townsville. To find out more about the Townsville Waterfront PDA, visit the Townsville City Waterfront Priority Development Area Website or contact our office directly.
