Preparing and Managing Applications

The preparation of development applications is the staple for Milford Planning Consultants, and our team has successfully been doing so for years. The importance of a well considered and robust development application strategy cannot be understated.

We have develop a streamlined approach to preparing, lodging and managing applications – from inception to completion - which manages both risk and cost. 

We have strong relationships with Councils and State Government Agencies, and are proactive and pre-emptive in tackling and resolving issues early.  Our track record in delivering approvals with this approach speaks for itself.

This breadth of services includes all development approvals provided for under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 and associated legislation – such as reconfiguring a lot, material change of use, operational works and all of the relevant corresponding compliance assessments.

Approvals Management

Effective approvals management can avoid unnecessary cost, delay and risk in delivering a project.  We can be tasked with modifying, changing, cancelling or extending existing development approvals.

Townsville City Council Accreditation: Plan Right

George Milford and Heidi Cooke were the first two town planning consultants accredited under the Townsville City Council’s streamlined assessment program: Plan Right.  This enables Milford Planning Consultants to provide for the fast tracking of certain approvals, as well as significantly reduced approval turn-around.

George Milford has acted as an expert witness in a number of Planning and Environment Court appeals, as well as land resumption mattes.

We are well versed in planning appeal strategy, expert reporting process, the process and preparation of joint expert reports and the delivery of expert evidence in court.

Strategic Planning

The Milford Planning Consultant team understands the importance of clear, rational and well-written planning documents. 

We have been involved in the drafting of numerous Planning Scheme documents, and have importantly acted as industry representatives for Townsville City Council’s Industry Reference Group for the development of its new Planning Scheme.

We have developed numerous plans of development of ranging levels of complexity for a variety or purposes and public sector clients.

Urban Design & Masterplanning

Milford Planning Consultants has a strong background in design, with George Milford being trained in design and practicing since 2003.  This has provided the backbone for our team to:

  • prepare and deliver several local and proto area plans on behalf of Townsville City Council for North Ward and the Hyde Park Medical Precincts;
  • develop strategies and plans for the growth and expansion of the James Cook University’s Veterinary Services and Research Services Precinct;
  • Inform the masterplans developed for Mount Low, Bushland Beach, Mount Margaret and the Townsville Distribution Precinct.

Development Management

There is clear time and cost benefits in having a client representative oversee and be accountable for managing and coordinating all facets of development projects from inception to delivery.  Milford Planning Consultants prides itself in its leadership in delivering projects in this manner, and offers a variety of fee structures to best suit the specific project circumstance.

Its flagship for this mode of project delivery is the Mount Margaret Park Residential Estate, planned to ultimately accommodate 850 dwellings, with the first stage anticipated for completion mid 2013.
